The last movie of the third trilogy of one of the most epic and famous sagas ever was released some weeks ago and I´ve been thinking for two weeks what is really my opinion of the movie, cause when I got out of the theatre I couldn't tell if I had liked the movie or not.

I must start this review by saying that I'm a huge fan of star wars, especially of the original trilogy but I also enjoy all the other movies, even though some of them are pretty bad. Also, I must say that I really enjoyed The Last Jedi, many people hated it but I loved it. I really had no expectations when I went to the theatre cause I had read some reviews before and most of them were negative but I was very excited because after all, it's the end of Star Wars (or at least a break).

The movie is basically fan-service and has a lack of developed characters, in the previous movies, especially The Last Jedi, Rian Johnson took some time to develop some characters like Rey, Finn, Kylo Ren and Rose (who has less than 1 minute of screen time in this new movie). But J.J. Abrams, who directed The force awakens and this last movie, didn't take any time to develop any of the characters, so I didn´t get to empathize with almost any character (the exception is Kylo Ren, which I believe is the best character of this trilogy and is played by my favorite actor, Adam Driver). Also, some characters like Lando Calrissian are in the movie just to give the audience something of the old movies because these characters didn't have anything to do in the movie but saying two or three nostalgic lines. The last negative thing I'm going to say about this movie is that the whole Palpatine argument was the most far-fetched thing I´ve ever seen, and it makes me think that the movie was just made for the money and not because they had a bunch of good plots and characters to develop.

I've said that the movie is basically fan service and for me, that´s a double-edged sword because it has its disadvantages and negative aspects, which I've just mentioned, but it also has a good thing which is all the nostalgia that it brings which most of the times I find negative because it comes out of not having a powerful plot but in some specific cases and some scenes of the movie, like for example the end scene with Rey in Tatooine with the two moons and the original score just like that scene of Star Wars: A New Hope was really powerful and emotional to me. Another aspect of the movie I did enjoy and found very positive were the relationships between the characters, especially Rey´s relationship with Kylo Ren and Finn's relationship with Poe. I really loved the kiss between Rey and Kylo and their whole hate-love relationship and I also enjoyed all the scenes involving Finn and Poe. When I read that Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was going to have the same-sex kiss on-screen ever in Star Wars, I was really hoping that kiss to be between Poe and Finn, it turned out to be a random racer in the background for less than a second, I really spent the whole 2h and 30 minutes that the movie approximately lasts waiting for that kiss, and I didn´t get it. I know that is something too “risky” for Disney and many people would complain like they did when a lesbian couple appeared for like 3 seconds in Finding Dory, but I think that it would have open many doors to Star Wars and Disney and that many people would have been very happy with that kiss, especially me.

Even though the movie has lots and lots and lots of terrible and disappointing aspects and many people hate it, I think that the Rise of Skywalker is an entertaining movie which most Star Wars fans will enjoy and it's worth watching, at least once.

5/10.
