When the 2020 Oscar nominations were announced and Adam Sandler didn´t get nominated many people were really shocked and mad about it and I didn't understand why people were so obsessed with Uncut Gems. A few days ago I finally decided to give it a watch and WHAT A MOVIE.

Uncut Gems is directed by the Safdie brothers and written by the Safdie brothers and Ronald Bronstein. It stars Adam Sandler as Howard, a Jewish jeweler and gambling addict in NY, who must retrieve an expensive gem he purchased to pay off his debts.

The first thing I must say about this movie is that it is a tremendously stressful movie, the last 30 minutes of the movie are really intense and exciting. The whole story is really well-written and the way it becomes more intense and more intense as the movie goes on is really thrilling.

The cinematography and film editing in this movie is also really good. The color palette is nothing super colorful or unusual but there are some scenes which are really beautifully shot, like for example the club scene when Howie looks at Julia.

The best thing this movie has is obviously acting. 99% of Adam Sandler´s filmography is comedy movies, which are not really good... And people are not used to seeing him doing an actually good performance and I think that is one of the reasons why people were so shocked by his performance in this film. Uncut Gems is proof that Adam Sandler is a good actor. It´s definitely Sandler´s best performance ever and one of the best performances of 2019. The movie also has Kevin Garnett, Idina Menzel, Lakeith Stanfield, Julia Fox, and Eric Bogosian, and even The Weekend. I´d also like to highlight the fact that Uncut Gems was Julia Fox´s acting debut and she does a very compelling performance.

In my opinion, Uncut Gems should have nominated in the 2020 Oscars in the following categories: Best Picture, Best Actor in a Leading Role for Adam Sandler, Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Julia Fox, Best Film Editing and Best Orignal Screenplay.

In conclusion, Uncut Gems is a very good movie and Adam Sandler is a GREAT actor. Also, the Safdie brothers rock.

9/10
