It´s not a coincidence that this second post about Movies the Academy ignored is also about Ari Aster, everything this man does is a masterpiece.
I have to start this review by saying that most of the critics agree that Hereditary is one of the best movies in the horror genre ever made, if not the best.
This 2018 movie written and directed by Ari Aster about a family whose grandma dies and some bizarre and inexplicable stuff starts to happen, starring Toni Collete, Alex Wolff, Milly Shapiro, Gabriel Byrne, and Ann Dowd.
I don´t know where to start with this movie as everything on it is absolute perfection.
The plot and story are really good and it´s nothing like most of the 2010s horror movies, which are mainly jumpscares and stupid characters, this movie is really fresh in that sense as it doesn´t need loud noises or sudden movement to scare. Hereditary had me scared and tense during the whole movie, and some days after watching the movie too.
The performances in this movie especially Toni Collete and Alex Wolff are probably some of the best performances ever, Toni Collete is one of the best actresses nowadays and deserves much more recognition, as happens with Alex Wolff.
Another really good thing about his movie is that is not only horror but also lots of drama, throughout the whole film we can see how a family crumbles and that´s something really sad, also the main characters, especially Alex Wolff, go through some really shocking and traumatizing moments which change them completely.
The cinematography and music are amazing, really scary and there are some really awesome shots especially at the end scene, which is sublime in all the possible ways.
So, in conclusion, Hereditary is an absolute masterpiece that everyone who loves movies should watch and Toni Collete and Alex Wolff should get 100 Oscars each for their performances in this movie.
10/10
