I´ve already talked about this movie is my coming-of-age movies post but I was very brief so I wanted to make a longer post about my thoughts on the movie.

I watched Mid90s a few days ago and it has already become one of my favorite movies ever!

Mid90s was Jonah Hill´s directorial debut and most of the critics agree on that he did a wonderful job with the movie. The film stars Sunny Suljic as Stevie, who is a 13-year-old living in LA in the 90s, and how he changes when he starts going out with his older friends who are skaters. The cast is surprisingly good, with this I mean that the main cast, Stevie and his friends, are not experienced actors, or actors at all, they are skaters and they did a really good job in the movie, the skate was amazing but the acting too. I feel like the fact that the movie doesn´t use stunt doubles to do the skate tricks is really cool and gives the movie a lot of authenticity as at times it feels like a video of some kids skating. The actors are really good especially Sunny Suljic, Olan Prenatt, Ryder Mclaughlin and Na-Kel Smith, who are the main characters. The movie also has Lucas Hedges, who was also really good as Stevie´s brother and Katherine Waterston as Stevie´s mom.

The script was also written by Jonah Hill and in my opinion, is one of the best scripts in the last 10 years. Mid90s was really really realistic and anything felt forced, all the dialogues and scenes were really natural and felt like it could definitely be the real life of a 13-year-old in LA in the 90s.

I believe the best thing this movie has is the cinematography and the soundtrack. They both combine in a very beautiful and aesthetically pleasing way. There are some shots of the movie which should be framed and taken to a museum because they look like masterpieces, and I´m not joking. Christopher Blauvelt is an amazing cinematographer and makes a really good job of capturing the whole skater vibe. The soundtrack was dope, just dope. The skating scenes with music are super cool and the party scene with Watermelon Man was awesome and the music fitted perfectly with the scene.

Mid90s was a blast to watch and I really recommend it. The only problem the movie has is that it ends up to soon, it felt like a short movie to me, but the hour and 20 minutes that it lasts are some really good invested minutes.

10/10
