When I first watched Lady Bird two years ago on my birthday I realized two things: how much I loved my mother and also, that I wanted to be a scriptwriter someday. So Greta Gerwig is a very big inspiration to me and I had enormous expectations on Little Women, and I have to admit that when I walked out of the theatre after watching Little Women I was a little bit disappointed.
I hadn´t read the book or watched any other Little Women movie so I didn´t really knew anything about the story before watching the movie but I was so excited about the cast and Greta that I thought it could only be a super entertaining and funny masterpiece, as happens with Lady Bird. But it turned out, at least for me, to be not as interesting and appealing as I imagined it could be, and with that, I´m not saying that the movie is bad or anything, not at all, but I didn´t really enjoy the story.
The cast of this movie is really really good and most of the characters are very good like Jo played by Saoirse Ronan and Friedrich played by Louis Garrel, also aunt May played by Meryl Streep was really good, but other characters like Watson´s character and especially Pugh´s character (she has been nominated for her performance in this movie) were really irritating to me, and I love both of the actresses, especially Pugh, but the characters were just very stupid and superficial, in my opinion. Also, I´m a really huge fan of Timothée Chalamet and I know that he is an amazing actor, but his performance in this movie was not as good as all his other performances.
I have said that the plot wasn´t really my cup of tea but Greta manages to make some scenes really interesting and with good dialogues between the characters, and there were many scenes that weren´t boring even though what was happening was boring because of the dialogues. Another thing I loved about the movie was the cinematography, which in my opinion is, with the cast, the best thing about the movie, there were very beautiful and stunning blueprints the whole movie. The clothing was also really realistic and cool, as well as the soundtrack.
So, to sum up, the movie is not a masterpiece and is definitely not Lady Bird but the cast is really good and Greta makes a really good job with the whole story, so I definitely recommend watching this movie.
7/10.
