So, on Saturday Dark season 3 was released and I spent the whole day watching it and in this post, I´ll try to make a decent and understandable explanation of the whole series. I´ve already tried to explain Dark in a previous post but it was only about seasons one and two so in this post I´ll also recycle parts of my previous post to make things more clear and easy to understand. Also, tomorrow I´ll probably make a Dark review, this post doesn´t have my opinion on the series, it´s just an explanation.
WARNING: Spoilers.

Let´s start...
I´ll start by explaining the family tree which I think it´s the most confusing thing in the series. So, at the end of season three, we had four separate families, and even though there were some really confusing things like Charlotte being the mother of her mother nothing really crazy besides that happened. Season 3 is super crazy in regards to the family tree, and everything gets more confusing when there is an alternate universe. And towards the end of season three, we realize there is a third universe which was the original. Super confusing, I know. So, the following picture has been taken from the Dark official website which is super helpful to find information and family trees without getting a spoiler and I really recommend to use it while watching season three in order to not getting lost, you can choose a season and an episode and the webpage will give you a spoiler-free family tree from that episode and the previous ones. The following family tree, as I´ve already said, has all the families and the two worlds. Also, the following picture has lots of pictures and can look very confusing but as this long post goes on I´ll try to explain all the families and connections to make everything crystal clear.

So on the left, we have the world we all knew from seasons one and two and on the right the world we get to know on season three. Reminder: these two worlds are just a creation of the whole Tannhaus situation which I´ll later explain.
I´ll start with the families on the left.
(This post contains parts of my previous Dark explanation post)
The Doppler family
So, in season 1 the family tree was pretty normal: Bernd and Agnes have Helge, and then Helge and Ulla Schmidt have Peter Doppler.
On the other side of the family tree, Heinrich Tannhaus is Gustav Tannhaus dad, Gustav Tannhaus is Leopold Tannhaus dad and Leopold Tannhaus is H.g. Tannhaus dad who is supposed to be Charlotte's grandfather but as season three goes on we realize that he isn´t related to Charlotte at all. When Charlotte was a baby Adam´s side (the Dark/Bad side) took Charlotte from her parents, who are Elizabeth, Charlotte´s daughter, and Noah, also known as Hanno, who is the son of Silja and Bartosz, that will make Bartoz the grandfather of Charlotte. Also, Silja is Hannah´s daughter with Egon so that mixes up all the families except for the Nielsen family. Charlotte was taken from her parents when she was a baby by Adam´s side and when Tannhaus´s son and grandson died, Charlotte was given to him and he took care of her.
Then Peter and Charlotte have Fraziska and Elizabeth. And then, in the future, Elizabeth has Charlotte and she is given to Tannhaus.

The Tiedemann family
So, as I´ve said the Doppler family is part of the Tiedemann family as Bartosz is Hanno´s dad, also Agnes' dad. And at the same time, the Tiedemann family is also part of the Kahnwald family as Silja is Hannah´s and Egon´s daughter. So, Egon and Doris have Claudia, and then Claudia has Regina with Tronte Nielsen). Then, Regina marries Alekxander, who changes his surname to Tiedemann instead of Köhler, later we get to know that his real name is Boris Niewald and have Bartosz, who later will have Noah and Agnes with Silja.

The Nielsen family
So, in the first chapter of season one, the Nielsen family was just Martha, Magnus, Mikkel, Ulrich, Katharina, Mads, Tronte, and Jana, and as the series continued we got to know Tronte´s mother who is Agnes, Tronte´s father is Martha´s (not Jonas´s Martha but the Martha of the other world, "Bangs Martha ") and Jonas´s son, whose name is not revealed but he works for Eva, who is old Martha and is the infinite and the union between the two worlds.
Then, we realize that Mikkel is actually Michael, Jonas's father. This is because Mikkel traveled to the past, 1986, and got trapped in there, so he started a new life there and the nurse that was in charge of him, Ines, adopted him and changed his name to Michael. Then Michel met Hannah and years later they got married and had Jonas. And then Jonas and "Bangs Martha" had the unknown man/infinite/Tronte´s father, which appears in the following picture:

The Kahnwald family
Daniel Kahnwald has Ines Kahnwald and then Ines adopts Michael, who is Katharina and Ulrich's son. Michael is Mikkel. Then Michael and Hannah have Jonas and years later Michael hangs himself. Also, in season 2 we get to know that Jonas is Adam, who is "the bad guy" behind Sic Mundus. At the end of season two, Hannah travels to 1952 and has Silja with Egon Tiedemann, so that will make Silja Jona´s sister and Jona´s would be Noahs´s and Agnes´s uncle. And also, then Jonas and "Bangs Martha" have the unknown man/infinite/Tronte´s father.

So, yeah, basically everyone in this show is related.
The other world families brief explanation
This is not deeply shown or explained in the series so I´ll just mention the slight changes between one world and another. In this alternate world, Ulrich is divorced from Katharina and married to Hannah, and Hannah is pregnant from Ulrich. Also, Ulrich is having an affair with Charlotte. Some other differences are that in this alternate world Regina is dead and Bartosz is not dating Martha, Martha is dating Killian, Eric´s brother. Also, in this world, Jonas doesn´t exist. Another difference is that instead of Katherine being molt, Franziska, her sister, is.
Also, I´m so sorry I couldn't add more family tree pictures but has everyone is related is very hard to make a clear family tree, I hope my family tree written explanation was enough.
Now I´ll explain briefly the two sides, and later the whole Tannhaus situation.
So, we have Sic Mundus, whose leader is Adam and what they want is the Apocalypse to happen and then we have the "Bright Side" or Eve´s side which in season 2 we thought was led by Claudia but Claudia is just following orders from Eva, who is older "Bangs Martha" and the origin of the whole apocalypse thing is supposed to be Jonas´s and "Bangs Martha" son so Adam tries to kill "Bangs Martha". And also, in another timeline, teenage "Bangs Martha" kill teenage Jonas. Later, as season three goes on we realize that the two worlds, the one was Jona´s lives and the ones were "Bangs Martha" lives are just a creation of H.G Tannhaus attempt to travel back in time to avoid his son´s and grandson´s death. And later, Adam and Eva realize that the apocalypse is inevitable and that their worlds are not the original worlds. Claudia says "Your world and Eve´s world was never supposed to exist". So, as young Jona´s and "Bangs Martha" have avoided the whole Tannhaus situation to happen the two worlds which are not the original worlds are destroyed and we see all the characters vanishing in the air. Jonas and "Bang´s Martha" share a super romantic moment in which he says the quote they said a lot of times during season two "We’re the perfect match. Don´t ever think otherwise" and then they vanish, in an "Infinity War" way.

In the end scene of the series finale, we can see some familiar faces in the original world having dinner in the Kahnwald´s house, we see a super healthy and without cancer Regina Tiedemann, Katharina, Peter Doppler, Hannah, who is pregnant from Torben Wöller, the patch policeman, Torben Wöller and Benni, who is Torben sister. Hannah says that she dreamed about the exact situation the night before and the lights go off. They all start talking about the apocalypse and Katharina proposes a toast for a world without Winden, making fun of the whole apocalypse situation, and then the lights go on again. Then Peter Doppler says something like "I don´t think Winden will ever stop existing" and then they ask Hannah about the name of her baby and after a long silence, she says that she likes Jonas. Then the screen goes black and the credits start to show as 99 luft ballons starts to sound. That leaves kind of an opening ending in which anyone can make his or her own conclusions, is the circle gonna start again? We don´t really know the answer as Dark is now over, sadly. I´m personally really looking forward to Baran Bo Odar´s new series or movie.

Okay so that was it, I tried my best to explain this whole complicated circle with tons of characters and three worlds.
