Sam Mendes's new film starring George MacKay portraying a soldier with a very important mission is the most likely to win the Best Picture Oscar tomorrow and has been highly awarded, especially in the Baftas and the Golden Globes.

This movie is a sequence shot with no cuts, except in one scene when the main character faints, and you, while watching the movie, follow this soldier throughout the whole film.

Schofield (who is the main character) and Blake (Schofield´s college) have to carry a message to a Colonel which is some miles away from the trench where they are staying in order to save 1,600 men, and they have to be quick. Many critics have referred to this movie as "The best Belic movie after Saving Private Ryan", and 1917 is not that good. It´s a good movie, pretty good indeed, but it can´t be compared to Saving Private Ryan.

The movie has some really positive aspects, especially the cinematography which was splendid, the movie had some really beautiful scenes especially the opening scene in the meadow. Another aspect that I found very positive about the movie was the rhythm and action which made the movie pretty pleasant and entertaining, I believe that is because of that you feel that you are in the movie thanks to the fact that the movie has no apparent cuts.

This movie is a good movie but it limps a bit when it comes to the dialogues and the characters. I personally didn´t care about any of the characters because I didn´t know anything about them except that they were soldiers, the only character I founded interesting and cared about was Blake because of the fact that he was trying to save his brother (who was part of the 1,600 men) and well, also Andrew Scott´s character (who is only in the movie for 1 minute but he is Andre Scott so it´s fine).

Even though the characters and dialogues are not as good as they could be the movie is great and absolutely worth watching!

(but I don´t think this movie deserves the Best Picture Oscar)

8/10
